The Directors of the West Midlands News are delighted to introduce the deserving recipients
of the Christian Tour Operator of the Year Award for 2010 as Izzy Tours; an organisation ran by David Isgrove, which arranges fantastic trips to Iceland throughout the year. During and following the foot-and-mouth epidemic in 2001, all school and University field trips were cancelled in the UK. One replacement scheme saw some educational groups attend trips to Iceland as part of their courseworkinstead. Whilst leading such a group in Iceland, David Isgrove rewrote the itinerary that had been organised, developing its educationalimportance and to provide more ‘awe and wonder’ of this amazing landscape. Out of this was born ‘Izzy Tours’, and simply by word of mouth, school groups began to ask him to organise such trips to Iceland for them. Iceland represents the ideal destination to learn about the natural world. It is one of the most unique places on earth and a hidden gem of Europe. During the field trips or general interest visits groups were able to explore many spectacular sites, particularly in southernIceland, such as Geyisr, Gullfoss, waterfalls, glaciers, ice caps, coastline and the Skaftafell National Park with Jokulsarlon, the amazing ‘iceberg lagoon’, and of course to see some of Award Winning Izzy Tours the 200 active volcanoes in Iceland.
