John Mackintosh the Highland Piper



I play full size Scottish Highland bagpipes which were made for me in 1964 by Pipe Major Donald McLeod, who at that time was employed by Grainger & Campbell at their shop in Glasgow. I wear full Highland dress and can offer the choice of the following tartans: Ancient Red Mackintosh (muted colours), Royal Stewart (red) and Gordon (green) kilt and full plaid, rifle green high collared doublet, white horsehair sporran with black tails, Glengarry bonnet with blackcock feather, diced hose and buckled shoes. Contingent on weather conditions, during the summer months I frequently wear a white doublet with any of the above tartans. This dress is very traditional and is based on the uniform of all Scottish Military Pipe Bands.
Having a full repertoire of traditional Highland piping melodies, I can recommend suitable pipe music to accompany any event.
Bagpipes are used frequently to add a special significance to various occasions. They can be as unobtrusive or as much in the foreground as you would like.
WEDDINGS
Depending on your requirements, the piper can perform several functions at weddings such as:
- Piping bride, groom and guests from the ceremony;
- Piping arrival of bride, groom and guests at reception venue;
- Piping top table guests in to dinner; and
- Piping bridal couple to their place of honour. (A bride often elects to have the cake cutting ceremony at this point, prior to joining guests at the top table.
- Traditionally, a Highland Piper will toast the bride and groom with a dram of whisky before piping himself from the room.

Royal Wedding see trees and flowers transform Westminster Abbey
Kate Middleton walked down an avenue of trees which were placed along the nave inside Westminster Abbey as the centrepiece of a spectacular floral display.
The six English field maples and two hornbeams, which reached up to 20ft tall, arrived at the Abbey as it prepared to close its doors to visitors for the royal wedding preparations to begin in earnest.
Shane Connolly, the florist chosen to decorate the Abbey, said he wanted to achieve a “wow” factor with the design, in which Miss Middleton played a hands-on role.
The aisle was also decked with native flowers filled with symbolism and grown on the royal estates after the bride-to-be told him: “It has to be British.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, watched by 1,900 guests and an estimated 1 billion on television, ran smoothly although the prince did struggle to put the wedding ring on Kate's finger.
After the couple said their vows, which as rumoured did not include Kate promising to obey William, the Archbishop of Canterbury pronounced the couple as man and wife.
Prince William has been given the title of the Duke of Cambridge by the Queen, and Kate Middleton has become Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. The decision by the Queen to make Kate Her Royal Highness is significant as it shows she has been fully accepted into the Royal family.
When they made their way back to Buckingham Palace the newly wed's shared a kiss on the balcony to the delight and roar of a huge crowd packed outside and all the way down The Mall. It is thought that half a million people were crammed into The Mall alone, forcing police to close it off and turning away thousands who were trying to enter.
Police estimate more than a million people lined the procession route from Westminster Abbey to the palace.
More than 24m viewers in the UK watched the royal wedding on the BBC and ITV, industry body Barb estimates. The BBC said a peak figure of 20m - a 70% share - tuned into the corporation's coverage at the end of the service in Westminster Abbey.
More than 34 million viewers watched at least part of the BBC's TV royal wedding coverage, it added. These figures include live iPlayer viewings.
The wedding between the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 attracted 28.4m viewers.

Dewerstone Photography is the working title for Louise Tope who has been involved in showing dogs since 1984, having handled many different breeds across the various groups.
Louise Tope specialises in canine portraiture but also works on a number of other subjects including domestic animals and wildlife, people and children and cars and automotive. Greatly experienced in her field, Louise is a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and British Professional Photographers Association.
In September 2009, Louise retired from a 21 years career as a professional canine beautician, turning to photography full time. Her desire and need to achieve balance and harmony in a perfectly groomed dog along with many years of experience in the show ring has given Louise a natural “eye” for a good photograph. Having always had an interest in photography and art studying the subject at GCSE and A-Level, Louise started out taking a few pictures for friends to feature in breed year-books and advertisements and has had a natural progression into the field since.
Louise started working for Our Dogs international newspaper in 2007 after submitting a portfolio to them and now covers a range of events in her area in the South West, plus general and breed club championship shows across the country, including Crufts.
Dewerstone Photography is regularly featured in the international Sighthound Magazine and has also appeared in various breed club magazines and yearbooks, the Crufts catalogue, Dog News Australia and the Mercedes-Benz Magazine.
Speaking of her passion on canine photography Louise said; “Digital photography has been a great help to the canine world. It is possible to take many more shots without waste, capturing all the very subtle differences in a dog’s expression, ear carriage and the like, that can turn a good picture into a great picture. My artistic flair allows me to create multi-layered, eye-catching advertisements and photo montages which are becoming increasingly popular for magazines and yearbooks. Personally, I still love to see dogs captured in black and white and often work in this medium. I am more than happy to photograph dogs in a formal show pose or perhaps, a less formal portrait. Either indoors in the studio or outside on a fine day-wherever the dog is happiest.”
Photo Shoot options available to clients include outdoor shoots where a location of your choice can be arranged such as a beach or park, in a studio or at your home with photo shoot sessions usually lasting up to an hour. About me and my photography
I first discovered my love for photography on my travels
through Asia and on so my return home to UK embarked
on an Honours Degree in photography at the University
of Plymouth. During my studies I began to work more
in the studio and became interested in lighting skills
both as a photographer and as a digital photographic
artist and combine the two within my work.
Today i have established myself as a freelance photographer
specialising in portraits, weddings, baby, maternity,
commercial and corporate photography. When producing
a series of images i like to work closely with my clients
establishing a solid visual idea as a starting point. I will
always bring my thoughts to the table but remain open
to clients ideas and input. For me the most important
aspect of making images in enjoying the process, from intital
concept through to delivery of the final photographs.
