Poor Servants Of The Of The Mother Of God

INTRODUCING THE AWARD-WINNING
POOR SERVANTS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

Throughout the year, the Directors at The Christian Cross select organisations that have best demonstrated a proven ability to go that extra mile in not only meeting but exceeding the needs of their clients.  Therefore, in line with this philosophy, it gives us pleasure to announce Poor Servants of the Mother of God has been selected to receive the BA COMMUNITY SERVICES AWARD FOR HELP AND SUPPORT 2010.

Poor Servants of the Mother of God are an international group of Catholic women who share a life commitment to Jesus Christ. Following in the spirit of Frances Taylor, foundress, they commit themselves to actively listening to the Gospel in the realities of our time, combining prayer and community life to enable them as Frances Taylor said to be worthy to be in the service of the poor.

The underpinning purpose of the group is to be of service to people in need and play their part in the development of social justice. Since the foundation of the congregation in 1869, the group have constantly grown and developed not only in numbers but to meet the changing circumstances people face in today’s society. The individuals served are embraced as members of the extended family, bringing challenges that inspire their work and the joys of achieving progress in self development and independence.

Wherever the sisters live, they are involved in their local parishes and communities in pastoral care and catechetical work. Many also take part in particular ministries such as prison chaplaincy, school and university chaplaincy, work with the homeless, refugees, asylum seekers, vulnerable women and others in need.

The SMG Associate Movement offers an opportunity for women and men, who are inspired by the same spirit as Frances Taylor, to share their understanding and knowledge of Frances Taylor by allowing her spirit to permeate their lives at home, at work and in their churches. It is a chance to make a difference wherever you are and in whatever you are doing. All are welcome to become Associates, Membership is open to anyone: family, staff, colleagues, and members of the local church.

The process of exploring, knowing and determining if this lifestyle is for you is called discernment. It takes time, prayer and spiritual guidance. It is a process where you can deepen your knowledge of yourself, your likes and dislikes, your limitations and your strengths.
The Sisters are happy to accompany you on this journey and to help you determine if this is the life you are called to fulfil.

Receiving the COMMUNITY SERVICES AWARD FOR HELP & SUPPORT 2010 is a milestone for Poor Servants of the Mother of God and forms the final piece of the jigsaw that confirms the organisation’s success.
