Dr Fox aims to provide a high quality, private patient healthcare service which includes confidential online health assessments and issuing private prescriptions which are passed to an NHS pharmacy for dispensing and delivery.
Dr Fox is registered with the Care Quality Commission and complies with the Care Standards Act 2000. Dr Fox employs General Medical Council registered doctors most of which are experienced GP’s. The regulations ensure genuine medicine is dispensed from an associate NHS pharmacy. It also guarantees accurate information is given and careful checks are carried out. The doctors at Dr Fox must act in your best interest at all times, by law.
Started by Bristol GP Dr Tony Steele, it provides prescription medicine online. Dr Fox also offers non-prescription items and treatment that the NHS does not pay for, such as malaria tablets. Available too are items rationed by the NHS including hair loss treatment and certain medicines prescribed by NHS GPs, such as treatment for hay fever, thrush, Chlamydia and contraception.
Dr Steele has over 15 years experience as a GP and was a partner in a Bristol practice before leaving to set up Doctor Fox. Dr Steele takes a precautionary approach to prescribing and rigorously checks for contraindications. He does not prescribe anything for which a face to face consultation is essential or drugs that could be addictive or misused, such as painkillers. Nor does he treat chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.
The clinical rational for Dr Fox is that there are lots of things taking up appointments in surgeries that patients would rather not bother the GP for. The surgery time could be better used.
Dr Fox also saves patients embarrassment if they want help with conditions such as erectile dysfunction (erection problems) where treatment such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra is often sought on the internet. By providing a fully UK regulated service at a low cost it is hoped less patients will seek treatment online from unregulated overseas websites that often provide illegal generic or counterfeit medicines that are potentially harmful. Patients can use the Dr Fox service with confidence.
Dr Steel explains that it is not his intention to replace the patient’s GP. Rather, Dr Fox offers an alternative means of accessing a limited number of treatments – and this frees up the GP’s time for other consultations.
