Motoring/ Classic Cars

To cater for the vast number of E Type owners, we hold a number of events around the country. Every February since 1993, we have held a spares day in Farnham, Surrey, catering for all types of Jaguar. In June (and every June since 1995 with the exception of 2002 when it was in August) we hold an event at Prescott Hill Climb in Gloucestershire.
Every five years a tour is organised, when our members drive their Jaguars through part of Europe. In 1996 we went to France, with a stop in Geneva where the E type was first launched at the Motor Show in 1961. In 2001 we again visited France and Geneva, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the E type. These are always great social occasions, but the socialising doesn't stop there. The evening before the Prescott Hillclimb a dinner is held at an hotel close to the venue, allowing our UK members to meet those from overseas in a convivial atmosphere.
In 2002 we arranged our first Track Day at the famous Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex. Open to all Jaguars, we repeated the experience in 2003 and since 2004 we've had TWO Track Days: usually in May and November. Please see the track day web pages for more information.
We also support other Jaguar events, such as the JDC's annual National Day, held in late July/early August.

International E Type Register
The International E Type Register is one of eight ‘registers’ making up the Jaguar Drivers’ Club – the oldest and original UK club for Jaguar owners – catering for all models of Jaguar since the cars first appeared before the war.
With just over 6,000 E Types registered worldwide, owners and their vehicles are featured in a directory published every five years. The Jaguar Driver’s Club also publishes a monthly magazine called Jaguar Driver in which the International E Type Register has a newsletter detailing the latest news and events, technical tips and photos of members’ cars. The Register also has a free-standing feature which comes around about once every two months, covering major E Type events plus the Goodwood Revival, the Silverstone Classic and the Le Mans Classic.
There were three models of E Type produced between 1961 and 1974:
- the Series 1, first with 3.8-litre engine then, subsequently, with 4.2-litre engine, in convertible (roadster), coupé (hardtop or ‘fixed head’) and, later, the 2+2 (fixed-head coupé with two extra seats)
- the Series 2, all of which had the 4.2-litre engine and came in all three bodies
- the Series 3, all of which had the 5.3-litre V12 engine and came in convertible (roadster) and 2+2 bodies (no two-seater coupé)
In the early years, the factory also produced a limited number of ‘lightweight’ cars with aluminium bodies for racing.
Every year, the International E Type Register organises a track day at the historic Goodwood circuit, traditionally on Bank Holiday Monday in May. This allows E Type owners the privilege of driving on the track under fully marshalled conditions. There is a dinner the night before at the Chichester Park Hotel and the event attracts members from abroad as well as the UK. Next year’s Goodwood Track Day will be held on Monday 2 May 2011.
In June, the Register holds its annual International E Type Day at the equally historic Prescott Hill Climb. This gives members a chance to display their cars in a lovely setting, enter the annual concours and drive their cars (one at a time!) up the speed hill climb – again, fully marshalled by Prescott staff. The winner of the concours is automatically entered for the Jaguar Drivers’ Club Champion of Champions concours at the Classic Car Show in November at NEC. This is the most prestigious concours in the classic Jaguar world. Next year’s E Type Day will be on Sunday 5 June 2011, with a dinner the night before.
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the launch of the E Type, which took place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961. To mark the occasion, 50 Jaguar E Types will embark on a tour of France, ending up at Geneva, where they will celebrate with friends from the Swiss Jaguar clubs. The last night of the tour will be at the champagne house of Moët et Chandon (the Register’s sponsors), where all participants will attend a gala dinner. The 50th Anniversary E Type Tour leaves the UK on 25 June 2011 (for details, email petronel.payne@jdc-etype.org.uk).
As well as the various events and tours, the International E Type Register also offers members an online forum where they can discuss problems and share technical tips, and the members of the committee are available to help answer questions, solve technical problems and advise on anything concerning the cars. The Register also hosts a service to trace cars by chassis number and/or registration number, and to track down the history of individual cars.
The Directors of Media Today Online were so impressed with the history and services of the International E Type Register that they voted unanimously in favour of awarding the organization. Congratulations to the International E Type Register in Hampton [DELETE PLS] on receiving the E Type Specialist of the Year Award for 2010.
