ALLERGY KIDS
Gains Recognition with Prestigious Award

Throughout the year, the Directors at Media Today Online select organisations that have best demonstrated a proven ability to go that extra mile in not only meeting but exceeding the needs of their clients.  Therefore, in line with this philosophy, it gives us pleasure to announce ALLERGY KIDS  has been selected to receive the ONLINE AWARD FOR ALLERGY EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR 2011, an independent Award Programme recognised both locally and nationally.

Media Today Online is always keen to bring attention to those who are providing a product or service that stands out from the crowd and deserves to be appreciated not only by our readers, but also by a wider audience.

It may surprise you to learn that 1 in 3 of the UK population will be affected by an allergy at some point in their life. The UK has the highest incidence of allergies in Europe and is in the top 3 in the world; with the cost of allergy to the country, at GP level alone, being £900 million per annum. Despite numbers increasing by 5% each year, with as many as half of those affected being children - few national resources are allocated to the diagnosis and treatment of this condition.

In a recent interview, Stephen Wardle Managing Director of ALLERGY KIDS commented: “When our young son was diagnosed with a severe peanut and nut allergy we decided that we needed a way of bringing his condition to the attention of people who might, temporarily at least, be responsible for his welfare. These included nursery and then school staff, parents of his friends, Cub Scout leaders and the like and, in extremis, emergency medical staff.”

Although there were a number of allergy awareness products on the market the ones we found seemed to lack a positive sparkle and none helped to portray our son as a totally normal being with an unfortunate allergy to a particular substance. What we wanted was something that he could enjoy wearing and not feel stigmatised or different from his peers.”

Finally, we came across an American company, Allermates, which has developed a range of fun characters, each of which is specific to a particular allergen. These characters are incorporated into a range of wristbands/bracelets, tags and necklaces with many more products on the way.

Colourful and fun for your child to wear, yet with a serious underlying message, these products add a new dimension to allergy awareness. Our own son has refused to take off his peanut allergy wristband, "P Nutty", since he got it.”

Since our son has begun wearing his wristband to school it has become a real talking point, not just among his friends but also among teachers and parents alike, many of whom are keen to see the full range of products. A lot of our son’s friends are now jealous of his band and I think one or two would not mind having an allergy themselves so that they too could wear "P. Nutty" or one of his many friends. We hope that our discovery will help to keep your children safe and add a little light relief to the constant challenge of being the parent of an allergy suffering child. It has certainly changed the attitude of our son and his friends to his condition and taken some of the worry out of our day.”

As well as providing AllerMates Allergy Wristbands – priced at just £5.99, the company also offer a wide range of brightly coloured products that highlight the fact that your child has an allergy including Allermates Allergy Awareness Tags, which can be viewed and purchased securely online at www.allergykids.co.uk

Receiving this accolade not only forms the final piece of the jigsaw that confirms the company’s success, but it also acts as a seal of approval to prospective clients.

Commenting on receiving this Award, Stephen went on to say: “Thank you to Media Today for this important award which recognises our company's efforts in raising awareness of child allergy issues throughout the UK.”
